獲獎者是由BoardGameGeek.com的使用者提名並且投票選出。
BoardGameGeek是一個非常棒的桌遊資源，而且適合來自世界各處，形形色色的玩家，
這個獎項反應出這個桌遊社群裡的流行趨勢，因此得獎清單極具參考價值。

2006年是BoardGameGeek Golden Geek Award第一屆，頒發給最佳的新遊戲，
得獎者是由註冊的用戶票選出來的，使用Schulze method來決定贏家。
